The reality of people with disabilities in light of a war made the Gaza Strip unlivable!
The war of destruction and killing that the Israeli Occupation has been waging for 52 days against the Gaza Strip and against all Palestinians residing in the Strip, which has been under siege for a little less than 17 years, has been escalating causing wide-scale destruction of civil facilities and infrastructure and in the martyrdom of a huge number of civil male and female Palestinians, which can be described as the deliberate efforts by the occupation forces in making the Strip “unlivable” now and in the future. Senior UN officials, rapporteurs of various UN committees, and senior human rights experts have described what is happening as war crimes aimed at ethnic cleansing, which may amount to crimes against humanity.
In the context of this war and as part of the responsibility of the Stars of Hope Society for the Empowerment of Women with Disabilities (SHS) and the Social and Economic Policies Monitor (Al Marsad), the partners have worked on numerous attempts to monitor the reality of persons and women with disabilities in the Gaza Strip in an attempt to document their voices, which is evident in the position paper “A War Without Human Rights: Protecting Persons with Disabilities in Light of the Ethnic Cleansing War on the Gaza Strip”, issued by SHS and Al Marsad to clarify and describe the reality of the situation of persons with disabilities in light of this war.
We urge all partners to adopt a holistic approach to advocacate for rights for all. Persons with disabilities, including women, must not be left vulnerable to be killed and displaced forcibly, and their issues must be highlighted. We urge you to adopt the demands made in this position paper to ensure that persons with disabilities and women with disabilities are not excluded from humanitarian efforts, and in advocating for them to avoid the scourge of war.
